Mark 7:2-3 (KJV)
And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.
For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.

Fault finding is one of the most destructive things any person can engage in. It is especially egregious when it is within the church of the living God because it is so harmful to that church.
To be sure, it is appropriate and right for the people of God to find fault with wrong.
- False doctrine concerning Christ
- Wrong teaching in the plan of salvation
- Error in the practice of the ordinances of the church
It is right to spot these things and take whatever action is appropriate (generally to come out from among them and have no fellowship – find another church).
Here’s the thing about fault finding, it is generally not about biblical doctrine and practice but about personal traditions and expectations. The complaint isn’t usually over the truth of God’s Word but over habits to which we have grown accustomed and with which we are comfortable, even over those things that are the Word of God. Jesus wasn’t condoning eating with dirty hands. He was saying that doing so wasn’t a spiritual issue.
Before we take a stand on a thing in which we find fault, we ought to be very careful to see whether it is a biblical thing or a personal tradition thing.
