Mark 3:9 (KJV) Jesus’ Priority

Mark 3:9 (KJV)
And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him.
Twice, in the early verses of this chapter, we read that a great multitude followed Jesus. There were people from everywhere:
  • Galilee
  • Judaea
  • Jerusalem
  • Idumaea
  • Beyond Jordan
  • Tyre and
  • Sidon
And no wonder. Jesus had healed many, those who had touched Him had been healed of plagues and unclean spirits had been cast out. Selfishly, the great multitudes came, not seeking Jesus or His pleasure, but seeking solutions to their needs.
It was impractical to think Jesus would touch every one of them. It was not His purpose to heal every one of them.
So a ship was engaged and Jesus removed from them. Here we see the priority of Jesus; He was more interested in teaching them the Word of God than of healing their diseases. Healing a disease salves a temporary affliction. Preaching the Word intends to solve an eternal condemnation.
