Mark 4:14 (KJV)
The sower soweth the word.
The sower soweth the word.
How powerful, these words!
Recently, I read a devotional thought based on the parable of the sower. The devotional thought, posted on LinkedIn, urges from this passage that we must carefully sow our seed only in good ground. The writer’s point has to do with things like investments, interests, and agendas. I suppose a case can be made for being careful where we sow our money, our friendships, our heart, etc.
But that is not the point of the parable. The point is specific – it is sowing the word, the Word of God.
And that sower should be careless with his seed. It must go to everyone and anyone, regardless of the return. Of course, we pray for the very best results. We wish souls to be saved. We wish Christ to dwell in them. We wish for conversion to Christ, commitment to Christ and even the call of Christ that they might sow this same Word. But what we wish for is not the main point. The main point is that every soil receives the Word.
The parable practically destroys the Calvinist’s doctrines concerning election. God does not choose some to be saved and some to be lost. He graciously chooses that all, regardless of race, creed, background or predilection toward faith, have the very same opportunity to hear the Word of God and be saved.
