1 Kings 11:39 (KJV)
And I will for this afflict the seed of David, but not for ever.

Based upon the book of Ecclesiastes, I am of the understanding that Solomon repented of his wickedness by the end of his life. Repentance, however, did not negate the consequences of his sin. Just as David’s sin with Bathsheba, though he repented, led to family strife, Solomon’s sins through his heart being turned from God, led to the division of the Kingdom and the resulting troubles until the Babylonian captivity. The seed of David was indeed afflicted. 

But then there is this wonderful promise, “I will for this afflict the seed of David, but not for ever.”

Praise the Lord that there is an end to affliction. Chastening is but for a moment. The plan of God is one of eternal blessings, not affliction. 

Turn to Him. Trust Him. Humbly repent of your sins. There are consequences for wicked doing but, for the repentant, those consequences will have an end.
