Luke 10:16 (KJV) To Despise the Message

Luke 10:16 (KJV)
He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
This passage applies specifically to the seventy that Jesus sent out as witnesses. But it has an application to preachers today as well as any Christian who goes out to witness for the Lord Jesus Christ.
I observe:
This was the seventy, not the twelve
Perhaps one could argue that, if such a word had been said to the twelve, it would be apostolic and have less application among believers today.
The twelve were not perfect at any time
This passage is before the cross and they were to make many mistakes before they were the men we think them to be today.
I, therefore, reject that form of bible interpretation that removes this passage from personal application.
  • To despise the message of the preacher is
  • To despise the Christ they preach and
  • To despise the God who sent Him
