Acts 4:14 (KJV)
And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.
This was the next day after he had been healed and after Peter and John had been “put in hold” or jailed overnight. It’s the next day but the man who has been healed was there, standing with them.
- A day before he had been a cripple, begging for a living
- A day before he was healed, walking and leaping and praising God
On this day, just the next day, he was standing with the Apostles who had been arrested for what they had done for him.
There are two possibilities for how he came to be there:
- He may have been put in hold with them
- He may have come the next morning to defend them
Either one has lessons.
If he had been jailed, note that this world cares little for the good work Jesus does in us. My life was so radically, fundamentally changed when I trusted Jesus that it is difficult to see I am the same person. The world cares little for that. I care and the Lord cares.
If he returned the next morning, note that the Believer’s rejoicing must often give way to responsibility. One day previous he was walking and leaping and praising God. This day he was standing in court with Peter and John. He could not have stood if it had not been for Jesus.
