Esther 9:1 (KJV)
Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them;)
Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, (though it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them;)
The time was different then and the applications we make need to be explained. The only real enemy of the Christian is the devil (and his angels). A genuine Christian, with any understanding of the Bible, would never seek the destruction of another human being, even those who hate us. We are taught to love them, bless them, pray for them and do good to them.[1]
At the same time, there is a hopeful promise in this passage. The enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over the Jews, God’s people. The plan was not merely to rule them but to destroy them, exterminate them.
But it turned to the contrary. What the enemy had hoped to do to the Jews, God overturned so that the Jews would do the same to the enemy.
In difficult times when it seems like the world will rule over, dominate and overpower the believer, don’t lose hope. Bow before God in prayer and fasting.
God may very well turn your circumstances to the contrary.
[1] Matthew 5:44 (KJV)
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
