Job 21:13-14 (KJV) Reasons to be Happy

Job 21:13-14 (KJV)
They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave.
Therefore they say unto God, Depart from us; for we desire not the knowledge of thy ways.

I believe that right here Job gets to the heart of one of the greatest problems in American style evangelism. Job realized that preaching that believers are happier in this world is not theologically true. 

• In this world, Christians are marked as the enemies of Satan. 
• In this world, Christians endure hardness as good soldiers. 
• In this world, Christians who live godly in Christ shall suffer persecution. 
• In this world, we are to work for the night is coming. 

The Christian is to lay down his life and take up his cross. 

Any form of evangelism that ignores these Bible truths inherently creates two problems: 

• It sets up souls to be false professors because they have become believers under false information. 
• It gives the wicked cause to remain lost. 

They have it better than many believers they know so, if the purpose of faith is to make us happier, then they have a reason to pass. 

The reason to come to God is on account of the consequences of sin:

• It has left us on a path of eternal damnation
• It has caused a breach in our relationship with the only source of rescue (Jesus Christ)
• It has blinded us to the nature and meaning of life
• It has stripped us of the ability to provide our children everlasting life

God has indeed given Christians many reasons to be happy. All of those reasons begin with reconciling our sin condition.
