Psalms 21:4 (KJV) For Ever and Ever

Psalms 21:4 (KJV)
He asked life of thee, and thou gavest it him, even length of days for ever and ever.
I find it interesting that this Psalm, so full of positivity, is immediately followed by Psalm 22, the prophecy of the Crucifixion, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Nothing in the Word of God promises mountain top living for a lifetime. Still, the Psalmist was able to write in verse 2, “Thou hast given him his heart’s desire, and hast not withholden the request of his lips.
I see verse 4 as the answer to that statement. His heart’s desire, the thing that God had not withholden, was “length of days for ever and ever.”
  • That is answered in part through the sending of Jesus Christ, who sits on David’s throne eternally.
  • It is answered ultimately in the salvation and eternal life given through Christ to all who ask Him for it.
