Psalms 42:1-2 (KJV) Let’s Not Waste It

Psalms 42:1-2 (KJV)
As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
This Psalm is a precious memory dating all the way back to the birth of my firstborn son. But I will leave that story for another time.
As the panteth after the water brooks
I wonder if ever a Christian in my lifetime has experienced this panting after God? I am sure we have read and reflected on:
  • The beauty of the verse
  • The poetry of its construction
  • The majesty of its composition
I imagine we have frequently placed ourselves next to those water brooks and drunk in the peaceful scene, the serenity in the message.
But has our soul ever had occasion to pant after God?
My soul thirsteth for God
This implies a need brought on by a loss. The Psalmist thirsts for God because he has missed God.
When shall I appear come and appear before God?
This sort of thirst must be the work of the type of tears shed in Psalms 42:3 (KJV)
My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
It appears to me, from verse four, his thirst is because he has missed the fellowship of God’s house.
With this “shelter at home” order, during the coronavirus, we have an opportunity to experience Psalms 42.
May we not waste it.
