Ezekiel 23:39 (KJV)
For when they had slain their children to their idols, then they came the same day into my sanctuary to profane it; and, lo, thus have they done in the midst of mine house.
Sometimes the parallels between the Old Testament and our day are obscured by our own preferences and practices. That which we do seems palatable, even when it is wrong. We can accept that those things God calls wicked in the Old Testament were terrible because we don’t do them. Those things that we do just couldn’t, in our eyes, compare.
The gist of this passage is this, Israel would do abominable things in their own time and then come to the house of God as if they were the children of God. This duplicity was, in God’s eyes, profanity. In the particular example, they sacrificed their children to idols and then came into the sanctuary as if to worship God.
The parallel has to do with how we raise our children. For as many decades as I have been a Christian, we have heard preachers warn against the public school system. Too many kept their kids in those schools, all the while smugly attending some form of worship. Today it has come to bite us in that so many of those children have grown up to believe things that are openly anti-Christian. The current election proves the point. Even some who are pastors have openly encouraged Christians to vote in a candidate who is pro-abortion, pro-alternative lifestyles, and pro-socialist. They can’t see past their disregard for the other candidate’s reputation to recognize that he is the only one who will stand for Christian values.
We have, for generations, failed to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. (Eph 6:4). Now we are not even sure what that is.[1]

[1] I wrote this on October 30th but I am posting it on November 4th. At this time it has been confirmed that the state of Washington has voted in a bill for comprehensive sex education beginning in kindergarten. This must be an abomination in the eyes of God.
