Jeremiah 50:32 (KJV)
And the most proud shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up: and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all round about him.
The context is of the King of Babylon. Consider what we know of Nebuchadnezzar and of Belshazzar. The application extends, I am sure, to the empire of Babylon. It was cut down by the Medo-Persian empire, really, overnight.
But there is an overwhelming principle throughout the Bible that teaches God is against the proud. It was the sin of Satan, the sin of Adam and Eve, the sin of Cain, the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah. It is the sin that leads to all others even today.
Pride makes us easy targets of the devil. Pride ruins our relationships with others. Pride refuses to submit to GOD and, therefore, pride can never be lifted up in the sight of God.
