Acts 10:4 (KJV)
And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
Cornelius would have been an adult of some years. His position as an officer, his achievements as a family man, a homeowner, and one with a number of household servants suggests years of advancement in life. We do not know when it was that he became a devout man but even that term suggests sufficient time to earn a good report.
Apparently, his devotion had been consistent without much “fruit.” At least he had not received the fruit God had for him. After, we don’t know how many years of:
Devotion
Fearing God
Giving alms
Praying to God always and
Fasting
His prayers and alms were come up to God for a memorial.
I simply want to be reminded that we have no idea what the result of faithful devotion to God might be.
Never give up on it.
