Ezekiel 29:20 (KJV)
I have given him the land of Egypt for his labour wherewith he served against it, because they wrought for me, saith the Lord GOD.
Nebuchadnezzar was a Gentile, heathen king. The Jews could not believe Jeremiah’s message that God was use him to chasten Jerusalem. Those Jews who survived the siege and remained in the Promised Land could not believe Ezekiel’s message that God had given Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar as wages for his service. They fled for safety to the one place God would not protect them.
A hard lesson for us to learn, especially those of us with a nominal faith in the Lord, is that He doesn’t do what we think He ought to do. He is the Supreme Being. We are to bow to Him. We are to submit to His will.
And we will learn His will through the Word of God and through those who faithfully and honestly preach it.
