The end
A point of destination or purpose, the goal.
For
The purpose of, often expressing motivation, toward.
Righteousness
Justification before God, salvation.
Christ is the destination or goal men work toward for salvation. The law is of no value for the purpose of salvation. Jesus Christ is the end of that path. He is the conclusion. The man who knows Christ knows that the law has no place in this path.
The law does have a purpose. It teaches us of the perfection of Christ, and it serves as a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. It convicts us of our sin, and it reveals how we have missed the mark. It compels us to seek salvation and therefore is the motivation to come to Christ. But it is not the means to righteousness.
Only Christ is that.
