What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded
This chapter clearly speaks of Israel as a people group and Gentiles as a people group. It would be an error, and one of great consequence, to attempt to make an application for individuals.
In truth, the teaching of the chapter is that individuals can escape the
judgment against the people group to which they belong.
God has blinded the nation of Israel in this present time so that He may perform a particular and unique work among the Gentiles as a people group. Individual members of Israel are able and indeed do escape the blindness that rests on the nation when they receive Christ as Saviour.
It appears to me that we are approaching the end of this age, in part because the Gentile nations seem to respond less and less to the Gospel. At what point will God choose to “break off” this “unnatural branch” and graft back in the natural one, I don’t know. I do know that this is the promise of God’s Word.
