2 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV) Could You? Would You?

2 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV)
For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.

Here is a tough one. The preacher says the reason he has written this letter is to find out whether they would be obedient in all things. It was given that they had been obedient in some things.

Could they, would they be obedient in this?

In the first letter, there had been one whose sin was such as would not have been so much as named even among the most wicked of the world. This man had been cast out of the church and delivered unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh.

  • Would they now forgive him?
  • Would they now comfort him?
  • Would they now confirm their love toward him?

It might be difficult sometimes to discipline someone. But to forgive them is manifold more difficult. To forgive to the extent of offering comfort and expressing love raises the level of difficulty exponentially.

Could you?

Would you?
