The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.
The principle of stewardship is here presented. They could not sell the land because it was not theirs to sell. It belonged to God. They were merely tenants. No matter how long they were to live there, it was God’s and not theirs to sell off as they pleased.
What intrigues me is that God claimed to be a stranger and a sojourner with them. Rather they with Him. It reminds me that this earthly possession is not the final place. There is coming
- a new heaven,
- a new earth and
- a new Jerusalem
We are but traveling with God to that new land.
