Job 1:20-21 (KJV)
Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
I can just about hear someone accusing Job of being fatalistic, complacent, or, worse, lazy. Having received all this bad news, Job took no action except to fall to the ground and worship.
Somebody believes he should have set about setting things right.
But the Bible says that in all this, Job sinned not nor charged God foolishly.
The foolishness of this verse would have been “words spoken in haste.” It would have been foolish to do anything other than to wait upon the Lord and to worship.
- Foolish things are spoken when they are said in haste
- Foolish things are done when they are done in haste
Spiritual maturity can afford to wait upon the Lord.
