The small and great are there; and the servant is free from his master.
While godly Christians long for heaven, no one in their right mind desires death. On the contrary, to dream too much of such things indicates troubles of the body and soul too painful for consolation.
This is not to say that such pain is never a benefit. It certainly was for Job. His trial perfected and refined his faith. It brought him face to face with his God. Finally, he came through it bettered personally and a testimony to believers for millennia.
His ruminations come from deep pain, but they are true. Death is the equalizer of men.
- Babies and aged
- Royalty and paupers
- Wealthy and poor
- Masters and servants
- Small and great
are on equal soil.
Except for eternity. Never forget eternity. The rich man and Lazarus died equally, but that is the end of their equality.
- Lazarus was carried to Abraham’s bosom
- The rich man lifted up his eyes in hell
Never forget eternity.
