1 Corinthians 1:11 (KJV) Concerning Contention

1 Corinthians 1:11 (KJV)

For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.

Concerning these contentions in the church, we may see at least three things:
The Corinthians were ashamed of it
Or at least they did not wish the news to reach Paul. We know they wrote to him with questions, but they were not who told him of the contention.

The apostle was pained over it
This resulted in his addressing it early in the letter, even before he addressed their questions.

The “whistleblowers” were here named
I take from that we should expect our words to be spread and that we should not agree to hear an accusation without the understanding that the accuser must be named.

This whole thing would have been unnecessary if they had resolved their differences.  1 Corinthians 6:7 is the answer.

I hate that division and contention happen in a church. It is unbecoming of Christians and is indicative of how wicked some of us are.

God help us!
