Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Paul said that his ministry, rather than making void the law established it. How so? His ministry, that of reconciling men to God through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, placed the Law of the Old Testament back on its rightful foundation – as an instrument of God to bring me to Christ.
His conclusion that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law was based upon the following:
Through the law is the knowledge of sin
The deeds of the law never justify anyone. It does not have that power. But it does have the power to bring a man under conviction of his sin. Thus, through the law, we realize we come short of the glory of God.
We are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus
For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. But all have the same free path to redemption because Christ died for all men, there is no difference between Jew and Gentile, all who believe are granted the righteousness of God.
The boasting of man is excluded, and the grace of God is uplifted not by works but by faith
There is a law of works, but it tends to the glory of man. (If we can but perform to our highest level, we might attain our own righteousness.) And there is a law of faith, but it tends to humble men. (We can do nothing on our own. Praise the Lord. Jesus has done everything for us.)
- Since all have sinned and come short of the glory of God
- Since the grace of God is available to all men, there is no difference and
- Since there is no justification possible by the works of the law
Any reasonable man would conclude to come to Christ by faith and trust Him alone for redemption, justification, and righteousness.
