That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth.
Submission is the key to Christian sanctification. Yet is the most difficult of things for the believers to accept. Consider the processes of submission in the faith:
Salvation is a step of submission
It is by faith and grace, but we will not come to either until we surrender our ability to save ourselves.
Baptism is an act of submission
The physical act of allowing another to immerse us is a type of death. We give ourselves to the preacher at that moment. We are literally in his hands.
Church membership is a form of submission
We surrender our independence for the sake of a body more significant than our own.
Marriage requires submission
We tend to think the wife is to submit. However, the passage teaches mutual submission.
We are to submit to the government
And to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake.
Paul asked those who had submitted to him that they also submit to those who labor and help him.
The flesh rebels against submission. However, it is this submission that serves to carve the world out of us and mold us into the image of Christ.
