But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.
The Bible isn’t very practical, is it?
I mean, really, who wants to be last?
Who would choose to be last?
Of course, Jesus said “many.” That means not all. That means it’s possible to be first and not last. That means we can strive to be first.[1]
Isn’t there a passage that says, “so run that ye may win?” Well then, let’s do that! Let Matthew 19:30 take care of itself.
Besides, we would only run to win in Jesus’s race. Surely that would qualify as first but not last, right?
The answer is in Matthew 16:25-26 (KJV)
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his lifefor my sake shall find it.
For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Sacrifice self for the cause of Christ.
That’s the last that is first.
[1] Understand, I am “speaking as a man.” In other words, sarcastically.
