Jeremiah 7:12 (KJV) Turn Back!

Jeremiah 7:12 (KJV)

But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

Shiloh was the original place of the tabernacle in the Promised Land. Situated in what became the northern kingdom, it is a graphic image of the decline of backsliding people.

  • It was the place God called Samuel
  • It was the place where Eli’s sons removed the ark to the battle
  • It was from this place David eventually removed the tabernacle

Now, centuries later, Shiloh was devastated in the conquest of the Northern Kingdom. God reminds the people of Jerusalem about Shiloh and warns that the same destruction was coming toward them.

I am reminded of Romans chapter eleven where God speaks of how He had removed Israel the branches and grafted in the Gentiles.[1] There is a warning there that God could in a like manner removed the Gentiles and graft back in Israel.[2]It’s an event the Bible says will happen in the Tribulation. We must not assume everything will continue as it is. We must recognize our slipping away from the Lord and purposefully, biblically, radically turn back to Him.

No man knows the day nor the hour. Our place is to live out every day as filled with the Spirit as God will allow and as obedient to the Scriptures as God will make us able.[3]

[1] Romans 11:21 (KJV)
For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

[2] Romans 11:24 (KJV)
For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?

[3] Romans 12:6-8 (KJV)
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;

Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
