John 7:20 (KJV) The Failure of Human Interactions

John 7:20 (KJV)

The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee?

Jesus is the perfect example to demonstrate the failure of human interactions because, in His case, there is no failing. If the interaction falls apart, if the communication breaks down, it is on the other party’s part and not on Christ.

Jesus had said that some wished for His death. The Bible says “the people” accused Him of having a devil. Maybe today they would have said that He exaggerated. Maybe they would have called Him paranoid. But the fact was He was correct.

There are a couple of possibilities why the people said this.

  • Perhaps they were unaware of the intentions of the leadership in Jewry.
  • Perhaps they were in denial about those intentions or
  • Perhaps they were well aware but attempting to deflect from those intentions

In personal interactions, neither party is perfect. That does not mean that one party or the other may not be:

  • Ignorant of what the other knows
  • Unable to accept what the other knows or
  • Wishing to distract the other from what they know
