(For he that wrought effectually in Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, the same was mighty in me toward the Gentiles:)
The ministry of the apostles, especially the ministry of Peter and Paul, is uniquely different from that of any preacher since. This is because the apostles were uniquely meant as the foundation of the local churches, Christ being the cornerstone.
However, we use Paul’s ministry, especially as the model for everything from pastoring, missions, and evangelists. In that sense, it is telling that Peter and Paul had uniquely different calls from God and that God worked effectively through each man as they ministered to those God had committed unto them.
Paul did try to reach the circumcised and admitted having a great burden for them. We may assume Peter attempted to reach Gentiles with the Gospel and, indeed, has done so through his contributions to the New Testament.
It seems appropriate to preach to those called into the ministry to seek those God has committed to their trust. It doesn’t mean we ignore others. It does mean God will work most effectively through us when we remain focused on the ministry He has committed to us.
