Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
I want to consider that this passage continues from the preceding one, written to those who are masters.
- Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal
- Masters, know that you also have a Master in heaven
- Masters, continue in prayer and watch in the same with thanksgiving
- Masters, pray also for us
Those in authority and with a measure of success may be less likely to be men of prayer. They have obligations and responsibilities. They are doers. They are confident. They may be tempted to see less reason for prayer.
The truth is they need to pray as much or more than others. The load God has placed upon them cannot be managed appropriately without the grace and guidance of God. They might be prone to manage in their own confidence rather than in the strength of the Lord.
Leaders might tend to be less thoughtful in praying for those whose lives have been surrendered to serve the Lord. They may view them the same way they see themselves, as doers, leaders, accomplishers. They may forget that the work of the ministry is entirely a thing of God, and that the preacher is a tool in the hand of God.
Those whom God has given the place of leadership are needed parts of God’s work. But they must remember that even their part must be submitted to God.
