Revelation 10:6 (KJV) Time No Longer

Revelation 10:6 (KJV)

And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:

Our Lord teaches us, Matthew 5:34-36 (KJV)
But I say unto you, Swear notat all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:
Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

A few things to keep in mind, however,

  • This is an angel, not a man
  • He swore by the Lord and not by anything created

Jesus said instead of swearing, let your yea be yea, and your nay be nay. I can’t conceive of anything more certainly yea and nay than Christ. Swearing by Christ would be preaching His Word, as none of us would have the authority to use His name otherwise.

The object of his oath was “that there should be time no longer.” What an ominous thought. For us, this would seem tantamount to “life no longer.” Our whole being is wrapped up in the “moments of life.” A picture is so meaningful to us because it gives the impression of capturing time. Lives that once were but are no longer with us still exist in the pictures we have of them.

But “time no longer” means something entirely different in the heavenly view. From that vantage, it is synonymous with “death no longer.” It would be an unimaginable blessing never to have the clock tick away another moment of life. To never miss another loved one whose life is gone away from us, to never have to think again of how to care for our loved ones once we are gone.

Of course there are multitudes of souls who do not trust Jesus Christ. For them that time when there will be “time no longer” will bear unimaginable curses. Revelation 14:11 (KJV)
And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

The message was sweet to the prophet’s mouth but bitter in his belly because, as wonderful as it will be when there is “time no longer,” that day is not yet.

There is still work to do to get as many safely in as possible.
