Revelation 21:3 (KJV)
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
Revelation 21:4 (KJV)
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
One of the most common questions I get about verse four is how God can wipe away our tears for loved ones in eternal hell. “Does He make us forget them?”
I believe the answer stems from verse three. The presence of God is so overwhelming that everything else pales before Him.
It’s consistent with Luke 14:26 (KJV)
If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.
We understand that a man is not required to hate his parents, his wife, or his children. The meaning is that we love the Lord so much more than any of them. We love Him even more than our life.
I doubt we have any decent understanding of the wonder of being in Jesus’ presence. To have God move His tabernacle to be among us, to dwell with us, to be His people, and He our God – this will so overwhelm us there will be no tears.
