2 Samuel 22:4 (KJV)

I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

David did have enemies!

• He had the enemies of a lion and a bear keeping his father’s sheep
• He had the enemy of Goliath he gladly engaged for the glory of the Lord
• He had the Philistines as an enemy serving under Saul
• He had Saul as an enemy when he got jealous of David
• He had Israel as an enemy when he became king of Judah
• He had the Philistines and Ammonites as enemies once he became king of all Israel
• He had his son Absalom as an enemy when he rebelled against his father
• He had the giant as an enemy and was nearly overtaken by him in his older age

David was skilled in war and willing to fight for the cause of the Lord. He had a great army with capable and valiant soldiers. Yet, when David thought of the enemies he faced personally, he knew only one hero. 

He called upon the name of the Lord. And in His name, he was confident of salvation.
