But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?
Job filled this passage with both reality and hope.
- Life is short and hard
- Death is sure and inescapable
- The grave is king and non-negotiable
It looks bleak.
But even the tree cut to the ground still has hope of new life. So, it is with man. There is life beyond the grave.
So, the critical question becomes, “and where is he?”
The Bible provides just two options.
- Eternal perishing in hell
- Eternal life with God
Job was confident that, though death and the grave would one day have their fill of him, he would answer when God calls.
When you arrive at the grave, will you be positioned to hear and respond to God when He calls those who sleep in Christ to be with Him?
