I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.
This Psalm is approaching a series of Psalms considered to be Messianic. It occurs to me that this one can also be applied as Messianic.
Psalms 18:37 (KJV)
Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.
This would be true only of Christ and it is true of us only as we are in Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Consider Christ in our text.
He pursues the enemy of my soul.
- The world
- The flesh and
- The devil
And He pursues them until they are consumed.
God is not content to allow sin in any measure to remain. When he has finished His plan only righteousness will live in us.
