Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture
There are areas of humanity that are confused in our minds due to the curse of sin. At the core of these areas lies our existence and our creation, whether we are self-made or not.
At its most fundamental level, we struggle with the concept of creation versus evolution. Evolution is a flawed attempt by humans to explain the existence of mankind apart from God. The corrupted human mind cannot grasp the concept of God, let alone attribute to Him the power of our existence. Doing so would immediately place us as subjects, necessitating our submission to Him. It would require us to acknowledge a truth our souls already recognize that there is life after death and that our choices in this life determine our eternal consequences.
This confusion has implications that reach even the doorstep of Christianity. We grapple with whether our successes are “self-made” or gifts from God. Certainly, God’s Word does not grant us the right to be lazy or idle. The teachings of the Word of God emphasize diligence, effort, and faithfulness. No one prospers who refuses to obey the Lord. Obedience to the Lord leads to diligence in the affairs of life.
On the other hand, God states in Psalms 127:2 (KJV)
It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
Ultimately, the wisest among us recognize that God made us and not we ourselves.
