He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
Now, here is a powerful thought: God remembered His mercy.
He caused Himself to remember; He brought it to mind. God actively evoked His mercy.
Given the gracious gifts that God had poured upon them and considering the propensity of Israel to backslide, this holds immense significance. Israel gave God every reason to “forget” His promises to them. They perpetually neglected His will and even turned away from it. They would, so to speak, “look God in the face” and chase after the gods of the pagans.
Despite this, God made a deliberate effort to remember His mercy and His truth towards the house of Israel.
Faith is one-sided, leaning on the Lord, because we fail God daily. Our friendship with the world actively opposes God.[1] In the face of these challenges, God actively recalls His mercy.
Thank God for His mercy.
[1] Consider the definition of the word “enmity.” James 4:4 (KJV)
Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
