His foundation is in the holy mountains.
I love the abrupt beginning of this Psalm. There is,
- No explanation
- No introduction
- No opening remarks
No light conversation to ease into the subject. The Psalm opens with authority concerning God and His will.
- His foundation- the thing that God does, wills, and directs His people toward
- His foundation- the thing that God has built
Is in the holy mountains.
That’s Jerusalem – Zion.
It is not in the dwellings of the people, though God loved those dwellings.
The thing that God had founded was in a specific place. The place where God appointed worship was in a specific place.
The man making the declaration[1] had been used by God both to secure that location and begin its development. I hear someone complaining that this was his will, not God’s.
A preacher will get some complaints when he bluntly declares that “this place”[2] is “the place” to worship God. Someone will no doubt counter that he only says it because of his interest in the place. But he is not wrong in insisting. He would be wrong to waffle in the least.
God’s foundation is where God places it. In the New Testament, that is a local independent and, I believe, Baptist church.
[1] King David
[2] The local church he pastors.
