According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
“All things that pertain unto life and godliness.”
I’m thinking, “what else is there?”
- We have the Word of God as a source of instruction
- We have the Spirit of God has a source of comfort and power
- We have the church of the living God as a source of community
- We have the Son of God as our source of salvation
What else is there?
All things that pertain unto life…
- Wisdom to live
- Ethics for work
- Morals for relationships
- Character for respect
All things that pertain unto godliness…
- The need of salvation (sin)
- The way of salvation (Christ)
- The means of salvation (by grace through faith)
The ten Commandments give us laws pertaining to our relationship with God and laws pertaining to our relationship with our fellow man. Jesus boiled them down to Love the Lord thy God and love thy neighbor as thyself.[1]
It seems to me that anything that other than these would be things that pertain to self, death, and wickedness.

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
