Isaiah 35:3 (KJV)

Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.

 

This is a wonderful ministry to practice in a time of trouble; to strengthen the weak and confirm the feeble. The ministry of reassurance, of building faith, of passing down what God has given us to another, is a precious work indeed.

 

But it is not often an easy work.

 

For the one thing, our hands often grow weak, and our knees frequently get feeble. We are not immune to the troubles of life or the storms in the seas. The barrage of the enemy of the soul is directed at us as well as those to whom we attempt a ministry.

 

For another, our ministry is one of words. “Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God…” 

 

Whatever we can do to strengthen and confirm is done with ideas and through faith. The enemy knows it and has mastered the art of words. Eve attempted to spar with him on that level and failed. 

 

I believe the appropriate way to minister is to use our words, not so much to wrestle with unbelief as to communicate the fact of belief. Point souls to Christ. He is their help. And then - and this is perhaps the most challenging part - drop it. Leave it in the hands of God.
