Revelation 17:4 (KJV) The Woman in Scarlet

Revelation 17:4 (KJV)

And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication:

Revelation seventeen was one of the very first chapters of the Bible I remember hearing expounded. Pastor Fred Scudder described, on that first Sunday I went to church, how that the great whore, this woman of Revelation seventeen is a city on seven hills and represents the one world religion of the end times. He described her colors and clothing and then proclaimed her to be Catholicism.

I shared that with a young man named Forest Jenkins, who immediately went to the library and researched it then came back and told me he agreed. He was saved shortly thereafter.

Over the more than forty years since I first learned that, many world events have transpired, many of them related to religion. Just the other day I heard where Mark Driscoll[1] says it is consistent with Islam.

God is eternal and knows no time. But His prophets and penmen were all bound by the world in which they lived. God superintended so that what they wrote was consistent with their world experience and is, at the same time, the eternal and living word of God. John, who wrote nearing the end of the first century, would have witnessed the early stages of what became Catholicism. Mohammed the founder of Islam wouldn’t be born yet for several hundred years.

While I have no doubt that Islam will play a significant role in the end time one world religion, I believe it is most likely that Islam,[2] along with all of Catholicism’s Protestant offspring,[3] will unite with Catholicism to form the one world religion of the final days.

Revelation 17:4 (KJV) The Woman in Scarlet

[1] https://youtu.be/GAjPHdjLi0c?si=2pl2cIT9Q7Yd2vB2, I am not a fan of Driscoll. I only intend to point out that, as times have changed, people have stopped seeing Catholicism as the problem it was (and still is) and have begun to focus on what we perceive to be the next big threat.

[2] An argument can be made that Islam, if not a child of Catholicism itself, is a response to Catholicism.

[3] The woman is said to be “the mother of harlots.” Protestantism springs from Catholicism and I believe will return to her. Already I’ve seen many within the Lutheran denomination return to Catholicism. I never surprises me when someone tells me they used to be Christian but converted to Catholicism. This is the direction the Bible indicates things will go in preparation for the judgment day of the Lord.
