Jeremiah 11:15 (KJV) Faithful Few, Fallen Many

Jeremiah 11:15 (KJV)

What hath my beloved to do in mine house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness with many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.

It is possible to view 'my beloved' as a reference to Christ. What would He do in the house of God, seeing how they were so wicked? Another view would be to see 'my beloved' as the nation of Judah. These were the people who had supposedly stayed true to God, but they were acting wickedly.

At that time, I think it would be fair to divide humanity into three groups:

Pagans

They were the majority of the earth’s population and, though the creation of God, were far from Him.

Israel

These were a significant part of those claiming faith in the true God, but they had drifted into utter rebellion against God’s promised redeemer.

Judah

Can we call them God’s beloved? This is the nation that remained loyal to God’s anointed leader. This is the tribe from which Jesus, the Savior, would spring. However, these were also the very people God's complaint was against. How painful it must have been that the very nation God had narrowed His promise down to is the one that has gone into sin.

In our day, most people practice something other than Christianity. Among those who claim to be Christian, by far most of them do not pretend to be Bible-believing Christians. I suppose, given the corrupt nature of man, that is to be expected. What is hurtful and disappointing is that so many of those who claim to believe the Bible give themselves over to the sins of the world.
