Romans 7:7 (KJV) Is the Law Sin?

Romans 7:7 (KJV)

What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

I don’t understand why some people struggle to grasp the truth of Romans 7:4 (KJV):
Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

It’s very clear. Those who are saved are dead to the Old Testament Law and are now both alive and free to be united with the grace that is in Christ.

This in no way disrespects the Old Testament Law or denies its place in God’s plan.

I have a preacher friend whose first wife passed away. In time, he remarried—but tragically, she too passed. He was still young and later married a third time. He and his wife are happy, joyfully serving the Lord, and clearly love each other. Yet, he continues to remember his first and second wives—honoring their birthdays, wedding anniversaries, the days they learned of their illnesses, and the days they passed.

To love one’s position in Christ and to move on from the Old Testament Law does not mean we forget the blessing and benefit of what has passed.

Is the Law Sin? Dead to the Law, Alive in Christ

Are you still trying to live by the law instead of walking in the freedom of grace through Jesus Christ? Romans 7 makes it clear—if you're saved, you're no longer bound to the Old Testament Law, but free to bear fruit for God through Christ!

👉 Take action today: Share the gospel with one person this week and tell them how Christ has set you free. That’s what it means to live by grace and not just read about it.

💬 Question for you: What’s one Old Testament command you used to struggle with until you understood God’s grace?
