Numbers 11:15 (KJV) Quail in the Wilderness

Numbers 11:15 (KJV)

And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

This chapter begins with the people of Israel complaining about their food and Moses then complaining about his burden of leading. Moses goes so far as to say it would be a blessing if God would kill him.

He wasn’t thinking of suicide; he just wished God would relieve him of his burdens.

God was displeased with the children of Israel for murmuring, and it’s safe to assume He was displeased with Moses for the same.

In response, God gave Israel quail, and He gave Moses leaders to share his burdens.

Israel ate quail until they were sick! What they thought was a blessing turned out not to be.

The same was true of Moses and shared leadership. Much of his time afterward was spent dealing with people who thought he took too much upon himself and wanted at least some of his authority.

God’s direction, God’s calling, and God’s supply will always be better than what we try to “bless ourselves” with.

Quail in the Wilderness: When Complaints Turn to Consequences

👉 God’s people often think they know what’s best, but Numbers 11 reminds us that our way leads to emptiness, while God’s way leads to life. Complaining, murmuring, or chasing after what looks like a blessing can leave us sick and dissatisfied.
