And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
The other day, a man I’ve known for years made a thoughtful remark. He noticed how I refer to my son—who is now my pastor—as “Pastor.” He said that although I had been a pastor myself for decades, I demonstrated humility in doing so. Then he added that in a day when so many call their pastor by first name, he believed I had set a godly example.
My answer was simple: I am still called of God and set apart for the work of the ministry, but I believe the office of the pastor is sacred. Without faithful pastors, there would be no churches for other ministries to go out from. God has placed a special anointing, gifting, and moving of the Holy Spirit upon the pastor to lead the flock—something given only to him for that flock.
- His wife doesn’t have it.
- His father doesn’t have it.
- The former pastor no longer has it.
- A pastor of another church in town doesn’t have it.
God uses people differently and uniquely. My calling is not the same as my pastor’s.
Miriam and Aaron illustrate this truth. Miriam was there when baby Moses was placed in the ark of bulrushes. She was the one who suggested to Pharaoh’s daughter that Moses’ own mother nurse him. Aaron was chosen as High Priest and played a major role in Israel’s deliverance from Egypt. But none of that changed the fact that God chose Moses to lead His people.
To recognize, submit to, and respect the one God has made pastor does not diminish us. Instead, it elevates the place God has given us in His order and strengthens the work of the church.

God’s Chosen Leader: Honoring the Pastor’s Sacred Role
✨ God’s order for the church is clear—He calls and sets apart pastors to lead His people. Honoring the pastor is not about lifting up a man, but about respecting the role God Himself has established.
