Numbers 16:9 (KJV) A Small Thing?

Numbers 16:9 (KJV)

Seemeth it but a small thing unto you, that the God of Israel hath separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the tabernacle of the LORD, and to stand before the congregation to minister unto them?

Numbers 16:13 (KJV)
Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us?

Numbers 16:24 (KJV)
Speak unto the congregation, saying, Get you up from about the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.

It seems to me that Numbers 16 is centered on the subject of leadership and trusting God’s calling upon those He has appointed to a great task. Some, however, were not satisfied.

Moses asked, “Seemeth it a small thing?” A sharp and mocking response was given by the rebels: “Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt?”

It’s striking that even though it was Moses’ leadership being challenged, God still instructed Moses to lead. Moses was meek and fell upon his face before the Lord, yet God did not allow him to shirk his responsibilities—and Moses did not. God calls men to do what He has called them to do, regardless of the consequences.

Then came the command to separate from those who refused Moses’ leadership. I am thankful that God does not swallow up every rebel and their families today, but I am certain that rebellion against God’s called man—and association with such rebellion—still brings sad consequences.

A Small Thing? The Seriousness of God’s Call

📖 God takes leadership and rebellion seriously. Numbers 16 reminds us that trusting God’s appointed leaders is not a small matter—it is central to His order and blessing. Rebellion always carries consequences, but following God’s call brings security and peace.
