And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
Jesus touched him — a man with leprosy. A man with a disease so terrifying in its time that lepers were outcasts. Loved ones, even the closest of them, would have no contact.
When COVID broke out a few years ago, the world was in a panic. Governments shut down. Businesses were forced to close. Churches were deemed nonessential.
We were commanded to have no contact with others.
Even bicycling outdoors, we were required to mask up and maintain distance.
When I got sick and went to the ER, I was required to sit in my vehicle alone for over an hour. Once they were ready to see me, they called my cell phone, instructed me to sit on a park bench outdoors, and there I was met by a nurse in a hazmat suit.
Once, when things began to settle down, my wife and I were in a grocery store without masks. A little baby squealed in delight at seeing us. Its mother said we were the first unmasked faces this baby had ever seen.
But Jesus put forth His hand and touched him.
- No fear.
- No judgment.
- No distance.
Jesus put forth His hand and touched him.
- Personal.
- Caring.
- Compassionate.
That’s my Jesus.

Untouchable? Not to Jesus.
💬 Jesus touched the untouchable — and He still does today.
When others pull away in fear or judgment, Christ steps forward in compassion. Luke 5:13 reminds us that no one is too far, too broken, or too unclean for His touch.
