For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
These days, doing more of the work of an apologist, I frequently hear from Catholics that tradition is both biblical and valuable. They cite, of course, those passages where the Apostle Paul speaks of tradition. Their argument is that the Bible could not possibly be considered complete enough to answer all things pertaining to life and godliness—that the church is God’s resource to make up the lack—and that this is done through tradition.
The result is that the traditions of their church take on authority equal to, and I would argue greater than, the Bible. (My observation has been that most of them don’t obey their traditions any more than they obey the Bible.)
Jesus makes this plain to any who have eyes to see and ears to hear. The Jews—just as the Catholics do today—had made their traditions override the Bible.
The traditions Paul spoke of are the Word of God. He was used as a penman of the Holy Spirit. That cannot be said of any pope or church council.
Therefore, the Catholic Church is guilty of a sin identical to the one Jesus condemned in this passage.
I stick to the Bible. I am convinced that in it we find answers to all things that pertain to life and godliness—if we are willing to rightly divide and then obey it.
That’s the rub! We usually just don’t want to obey it.

God’s Word Alone: Tradition Can’t Outshine the Bible
📖 The Bible or Tradition—Which Do You Follow?
Jesus warned that people often “lay aside the commandment of God” to keep manmade traditions (Mark 7:8). Many today trust church rules, rituals, or leaders more than God’s Word.
