Luke 12:32 (KJV) Small Flock, Mighty Shepherd

Luke 12:32 (KJV)

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

Of all the terms Jesus could have used, He called them a “little flock.”
That’s completely honest, because they certainly weren’t the majority of the people in the city—nor the majority in Israel, the Middle East, or the world.

A common phrase I hear at church meetings is “In a crowd this size…” It’s usually used near the end of a sermon to appeal to the lost for salvation. But I’ve heard it in meetings with over a thousand people and in gatherings with fewer than fifty. “A crowd this size” sounds impressive—it carries the weight of influence and the appearance of success. But it’s a false perception. Even the largest congregations in the world are small compared to the multitudes outside them.

During COVID, one of the largest and most influential churches in America (even that is relative because it is among the Independent Baptists. There are many denominational and evangelical churches much larger) initially refused to comply with government shutdown orders. Their pastor boldly declared their stand for religious liberty. Their church operated a Bible college, and they urged students to come anyway. But within weeks, everything changed. The pastor—tearfully—announced that the college would not open and the congregation could not meet in their massive auditorium. Appeals for financial help followed because their ministries could not sustain their debt without open doors.

As influential as they believed themselves to be, they were nothing in the eyes of the government.

Jesus had no problem acknowledging that His flock was little. He had no ego issue, no need to look successful. He came to do His Father’s will—and was content to have done it.

Christian, we aren’t here to change the world or take it back for Jesus. We are here to serve at the pleasure of our God and to glorify Him.

Serve His will with your life—and be content with that.
In His time and at His pleasure, we will receive His kingdom.

Small Flock, Mighty Shepherd: Spiritual Success Isn’t Measured by Crowds

Are You Part of the Little Flock?

Jesus said, “Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12:32 KJV)

In a world that celebrates size and success, God reminds us that faithfulness—not fame—is what He values most. You don’t have to be part of the crowd to please God; you just need to follow Christ faithfully.
