Job 26:14 (KJV)
Lo, these are parts of his ways: but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?
Job has said some remarkable things about God in this chapter. He has spoken of His power in the heavens, over the waters, and throughout creation.
Then Job says, “Lo, these are parts of his ways.”
John Gill describes them as “the extremities, the edges, the borders, and outlines of the ways and works of God.”
Think about that.
Everything Job had observed was only the edges.
The most observant among us only know parts of God’s ways. We have the creation around us. We have the Word of God before us. We have the revelation of God through His Son, Jesus Christ.
We can know God. We ought to know God.
But there is so much more to God than we know.
Job asks, “how little a portion is heard of him?”
That doesn’t mean we should be satisfied knowing little of God. Peter wrote,
2 Peter 3:18 (KJV)
But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
We ought to spend our lives growing in the knowledge of the Lord.
And then there is eternity.
I can only imagine what it will be like to be in the presence of the Lord and spend eternity learning more and more of who God is, how God works, and what God has purposed.
We can only imagine the questions we might want to explore.
But probably there is so much to God that we don’t even know the questions we will want to ask.
There are things about God we do not know enough to wonder about yet.
A wise man knows God. He speaks to God. He speaks about God. He grows in the knowledge of God. But he never comes to think that he has God figured out.
Lo, these are parts of his ways.

How Little We Know About God: Only Parts of His Ways
How much do we really know about God? Job reminds us that what we know is only “parts of his ways.” We can know God, grow in our knowledge of Him, and spend a lifetime learning His Word—and still have only begun.
