Job 41:10-11 (KJV) The Lesson of Leviathan

Job 41:10-11 (KJV)

None is so fierce that dare stir him up: who then is able to stand before me?

Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him? whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

The subject is Leviathan. I believe him to be a sea dinosaur, perhaps related to the crocodile and alligator, but not the same, for sure. An animal so fierce that no one dare stir him up, but that is now extinct. Nothing on this earth exists forever. No might nor power of the earth matches that of God. They will all pass away, but never God nor His Word.

In the midst of this discourse on Leviathan, God speaks of Himself and says,

Who then is able to stand before me?

Who hath prevented me, that I should repay him?

and

Whatsoever is under the whole heaven is mine.

If man cannot stand against Leviathan, how can he stand before the God who created him?

If everything under heaven belongs to God, what could man possibly give God that God did not already own? God owes us nothing. Everything we possess came from Him in the first place.

The creature belongs to God. The earth belongs to God. We belong to God.

Is there anything else we need to know about God except how to be reconciled with Him?

And that reconciliation is the theme of the whole Bible.

John 14:6 (KJV)

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The Lesson of Leviathan: Job 41 Points Us to Jesus Christ

What does Leviathan teach us about the power of God—and how can sinful man be reconciled to the God who owns everything under heaven?
