Thou Mayest Add Thereto

1 Chronicles 22:14 KJV
Now, behold, in my trouble I have prepared for the house of the LORD an hundred thousand talents of gold, and a thousand thousand talents of silver; and of brass and iron without weight; for it is in abundance: timber also and stone have I prepared; and thou mayest add thereto.

David had saved and collected and planned and prepared so that when Solomon came to the throne everything he needed to build the Temple for God would be ready.

The details of the timing are not given but I imagine this to be about the same time King David warned Solomon about his brother, about Shimei, and about Joab. In these instructions, one king is passing on to the next and a father is passing on to his son David encouraged Solomon to "arise and be doing" the building of this Temple. But in the instructions, David told Solomon, "thou mayest add thereto."

Nothing said Solomon had to stay where his father had left off. Nothing said Solomon could not carry the project further than David had gone.

And the same is true in our day.
Nothing says we can't grow spiritually past our parents
Nothing says we can't rise higher in our walk with the Lord than our Pastor has encouraged us
Nothing forbids us from doing more for the cause of Christ than those who have prepared the way for us.

Praise God for those who have planned and prepared that we may be saved and that we may study the Word of God and that we may take part in the work of God.

But we may “add thereto.”
